Gamcheon Culture Village, with Colorful Houses Lining the Hillside

The Gamcheon area is located on the hillside, where low-rise, terraced apartment buildings—resembling row houses—are tightly packed, making it a popular spot for tourists seeking “Instagram-worthy” views. During redevelopment, the area took an approach of “revitalizing the city through art,” preserving the town’s history and cultural-artistic value while taking advantage of the land’s characteristics. The Lego-like buildings are painted in a variety of colors, and art is present throughout the neighborhood. Walking through the area gives the feeling of wandering through a small maze, with photo spots scattered everywhere—clearly a successful realization of the developers’ vision.
