Night Lights of Gamcheon Culture Village

The orange glow of sodium lamps in the alleys, security lights mounted on the corners of houses, and the white streetlights, when seen from a distance, appear sporadically across Gamcheon’s terraced terrain, creating a unique nightscape. The narrow, pitch-dark alleys—where houses are barely a meter apart—require considerable courage to enter, yet the occasional warm-colored light popping up here and there offers a small sense of comfort.

This kind of night view, shaped spontaneously by everyday life, carries a nostalgic feeling. While removing all the white lights and using only warm tones might create a more uniform and aesthetically pleasing scene, the lack of uniformity seems to contribute to the rhythm of the town built on these terraced slopes. The only thing I wish could be adjusted are the occasional glaring streetlights that break the visual harmony.
