We wanted to see not only thefamous pyramids, but also a lot of interesting cities and lightings in the night. To explore the lighting in Egyptian daily life, we chose to visit two main cities in Greater Cairo Area for four days. ■Introduction Egypt, one of the world’s oldest civilizations, is home to the pyramids, deserts, the Nile, and its vibrant capital, Cairo, where ancient and modern worlds meet.To explore this one of the most historical countries in the world, we chose to visit two main cities in Greater Cairo Area —Cairo (the captial city of Egypt) and Giza (with Memphis and its Necropolis – the Pyramid Fields from Giza to Dahshur ).As the sun sets over the city, Cairo & Giza transforms into a dazzling display of lights and enchantment. The bustling streets come alive with vibrant energy. Theme: The Benefits of Traveling Interviewer: Xu Xiao XU: Today I would like to talk about the benefits of traveling with Mr Mende. Traveling could open our minds to new things, experience new culture, meet new people and make new friends, get to know their stories and see how other people live, get relaxation from regular life, increase knowledge, create memories for a lifetime, try different food in different cities, face challenges. I have learned snorkeling from Tioman Island trip & Phuket trip, and I have found that is a very exciting activity. MEN: Previously you did not swim? XU: No, I could not swim previously, as my hometown is surrounded by mountains, I have never seen beach before. Does Mr Mende also have experience of the benefits of traveling? MEN: Yes. There are different kinds of traveling, for example: 独り旅(ひとりたび) 1 person traveling, 二人旅(ふたりたび )2 persons traveling, 団体旅行(だんたいりょこう) group traveling. For me, たび is different from りょこう, たびis more sensitive, just for making mind free, escaping from daily life, it is healthier for the life, such as 心の旅(こころのたび). 独り旅(ひとりたび) 1 person traveling is the most important kind of traveling for me, sometimes I have二人旅(ふたりたび )2 persons traveling together with my wife, but I have never been tried group traveling because it is only for paying the charges and you have to wait for many people. 3 day student workshop 20252025.09.13-09.15 Noriko Higashi This year marks the fourth time the Lighting Design Workshop has been held. Nineteen students gathered from all over Japan to spend three days thoroughly learning about lighting design. With new programs added this year, the workshop has evolved further. This is the fourth session of the Lighting Design Workshop, which we tentatively started in 2021.This year, we again completed a packed program with 19 motivated students who gathered from across the country. In addition to nine varied lectures, this year’s program included training at a lighting manufacturer and site visits to various projects. ■LecturesWe provided a total of nine lectures, beginning with the foundational knowledge of lighting design, the design process, and the philosophy and methodologies of LPA’s lighting design. We also introduced specific projects, such as the Ishikawa Prefectural Library, Takanawa Gateway Station, and the Osaka Healthcare Pavilion at the Osaka-Kansai Expo. The themes and content of the lectures were highly refined through multiple internal reviews, making them concise and of high quality. In addition, we included Q&A sessions between each lecture. For questions that could not be answered during the session, we posted the responses so they could be read by everyone, ensuring that we addressed the students’ inquiries as much as possible. ■Individual AssignmentStudents participating in the workshop are given an individual assignment one month in advance.
