2014.10.02-10.05　　　　　　　 The 11th Forum was held in Madrid, Spain. A city with very old history, however, the theme was〝NEW CITY_NEW PEOPLE_NEW”and we talked with Madrid residents about the city’s lighting now and in the future. Symposium Talk Show Pre-event – Talk Show A panel of 5 Lighting Detectives and 8 local Madrid artists, designers, and creators each gave a short 10 minute talk. Ｄａｙ１ Orientation Orientation began with the introduction of the Lighting Detectives and members, the purpose of city walks, and how city walks are conducted. Participants were then divided into 4 groups to discuss chosen survey areas. Students who did preliminary surveys of the areas explained theories on lighting heroes and villains and discussed the basic lighting environment. Along with local residents and students the forum focused discussion and debate on Kyoto-style of light. For 3-days the forum led continuous discussions and debates on Kyoto-style of light, with impromptu studies of neighborhood lighting and design proposals. The lighting design proposals were also tested in a round of Light Up Ninja! Each street has a name, such as Jiyudori, Gakuen-dori, Marie Claire-dori, Maple-dori, and Megami-dori. They are lined with a high concentration of shops selling miscellaneous goods, cafes, and sweets that make you want to stop and browse.We investigated whether the nighttime lighting was as stylish as the neighborhood’s reputation. Jiyugaoka also ranks high on lists of “most desirable places to live.” This time, we conducted a Night Walk Survey on the various streets extending from Jiyugaoka Station, focusing on their “stylish” appeal. Members were surprised of how dark it was around the entrance of the station when they came out from the West Bldg. There were no light dust on neither on the road nor vertical surface, and it was about 10 lux. Down lights under the eaves were not lighting up. Many people felt lighting should improve for safety and reassurance. On the Tokyu Plaza Façade in front of the station, there was an advertisement with LED emitting strong light, and a banner advertisement. The cherry blossoms have fallen and scattered and the riverside before my eyes grows over in a mixture of shades of green. The smells of new green leaves and the scent of spring coming to an end rides on the breeze. It is a rare Sunday with no work or business trips, just fine weather. As I was watching the surface of the water along the Sumida River, I heard a little voice “Have you forgotten about your Detective Note?” So pitiful, I can`t even remember the last time I wrote a Detective Note…. So, I apologize and I have decided to write down a few simple thoughts. The topic this time is the chemistry between twilight and an oil lamp. Before my trip to Vietnam last week, I took a few pictures in my rooftop garden. Just as I was lighting an oil lamp for the dinner table, across the river, the evening sky was a beautiful gradation in the full blue moment. At my house, we like to enjoy the start of the evening with drinks and appetizers outside, then come in for the main dish.
