Jacob Ballas Children`s Garden of the Singapore Botanic Gardens, Singapore 11 October 2008 Archifest08 + Light Up Ninja Junior In conjunction with ‘Archifest 08’ event sponsored by the Singapore Institute of Architects (SIA), the Lighting Detective Singapore Chapter held a new version of an old event, “Light Up Ninja Junior.” The last Light Up Ninja event was three years previous, but this Junior event is tailored towards children. We didn`t really know what to expect for young Lighting Detectives, but we did our best to prepare! The first challenge was to agree upon a venue. Out of many possibilities, and with support from NParks, the Jacob Ballas Children`s Garden inside the Singapore Botanic Gardens was chosen. Light Up Ninja Junior Planning: Playing and Learning from Light Next, what kind of lighting event would be most intriguing for 30 children ages 4 to 10 years old? We tried to prepare an interesting, but simple event that would make light fun. The event came to center on hand-made lanterns by the children. After completion, the lanterns would be set around the garden for the children to experience the softly growing light in a dark environment. The cherry blossoms have fallen and scattered and the riverside before my eyes grows over in a mixture of shades of green. The smells of new green leaves and the scent of spring coming to an end rides on the breeze. It is a rare Sunday with no work or business trips, just fine weather. As I was watching the surface of the water along the Sumida River, I heard a little voice “Have you forgotten about your Detective Note?” So pitiful, I can`t even remember the last time I wrote a Detective Note…. So, I apologize and I have decided to write down a few simple thoughts. The topic this time is the chemistry between twilight and an oil lamp. Before my trip to Vietnam last week, I took a few pictures in my rooftop garden. Just as I was lighting an oil lamp for the dinner table, across the river, the evening sky was a beautiful gradation in the full blue moment. At my house, we like to enjoy the start of the evening with drinks and appetizers outside, then come in for the main dish. I don`t think I even need to explain how great this slow, relaxing and rambling time before the main course feels. Alfresco dining with a slight breeze and the last light of the day is the best. 28 July, 2005 At this session there were only a few topics on the table, which gave members an opportunity to discuss, in-depth, new products and ideas from the New York City Lighting Fair, the direction of and trends in Ginza lighting, and the festive events that unfolded at the most recent Candle Night Performance. This session was a welcomed breather from previous salons of fast-paced slideshows and long agendas. Members could freely exchange ideas and talk about lighting culture without a pressing schedule. Lighting Survey：Kagoshima 2017/10/25-10/27 　Shunichi Ikeda + Yuri Araki Kagoshima city is a city which its urban area is integrated with nature and magnificent scenery, and it is also a tourist attraction that is represented by Sakurajima. It has scenery unique to Kagoshima city such as a view to Sakurajima, Japanese modernization asset like historical buildings, and urban scenery with slanted green area in the background. We researched the light environment of this highly regarding scenery formation area with Sakurajima as a main axis. Night view of Kagoshima seeing Sakurajima. There isn’t any color lighting or building advertisement on city in front of the Sakurajima. It takes 1 hour to get to central area of city from Kagoshima airport. It was very exciting and felt good to have a drive looking at clear sky, rich water and greens, and magnificent Sakurajima with rising smoke. When we arrived at urban area, we started from researching about urbanscape planning, so we visited city hall that is a little walk from statue of Saigou Takamori. After that, we checked up main roadways in central areas and parks, history and culture area, commercial area, etc, and started preparing for a research about lighting environment. In recent years, it has also gained fame as a hub for tourism and film. We surveyed the lighting in Busan, which is also a member of LUCI (Lighting Urban Community International). South Korea is a close neighbor, just 1.5 hours from Tokyo by plane, making it a popular destination for quick and affordable trips. Busan, the second-largest city in South Korea, is not only a tourist destination but also a major port and an entertainment center, hosting film festivals. As a member of LUCI, Busan has been focusing on urban lighting as part of its urban planning. In 2015, the city developed an extensive overview of its nightscapes, resulting in the Busan Urban Light Policy for 2030. This policy has been updated several times, reflecting the city’s ongoing efforts in implementation and improvement.
